Book: "Electrical drives for precision engineering designs"

With this book prof. John Compter is aiming for engineers that want to apply an electric motor for accurate applications. This means a motor that is able to precisely, but also rapidly, position the load on the desired location. In several applications this is of direct interest for the processing capacity or the speed of the machine. This directly influences the competitive edge. Good and quick positioning therefor is very important! This point is confirmed in practise especially by wire bonders, wafer scanners, equipment to place electronics components, wafer handlers and robots.
Compter shows which motors are applicable for accurate positioning, and gives an elaborate comparison with plusses and minuses between the motor types. After that he discusses the thermal behaviour of motors and shows that values that are normally considered to be 'constant' are not constant at all. Because of this the performance of the motor can significantly deteriorate. Including this influence when a motor is choosen can prevent overheating. specAmotor uses this knowledge when calculating the best motor.
Compter finishes with an elaborate discussion about linear motors and voice coil motors.
